While I relish my summer time off – having no weekly obligations is a delicious freedom – I admit I really miss singing with the chorus. I sing a bit by myself, but it just doesn’t match that wonderful feeling of raising my voice with a group of women.
Sing! kicks off the Fall 2014 session beginning Wednesday, September 24 and Monday, September 29. Not too long to wait. Start warming up your singing voice now! See details on the Join page here.
I’m especially pumped about the new Monday night class this year. It feels a bit like getting back to the roots of this group. Group 1, meeting on Mondays, will take a relaxed approach to music making. Miss a class? I’ll re-teach a song just for you. We’ll be making incredible music, but will take it kind of slow and easy. I hope to welcome a number of new singers to this group, and I’m excited to be a there as this particular group of singers finds a common voice.
Group 2, meeting on Wednesday nights, is the continuation of Sing!’s years of music making. Over time we have challenged ourselves and grown individually and as a group. Wednesday nights will feature a more intense experience. New members are welcome in this group; the primary expectation for the Wednesday night group is a high level of commitment, including regular attendance and a willingness to participate in most performances. This group also functions as my “laboratory” working with me on new arrangements before they are finalized. It takes some patience with the process, courage to go forward when things aren’t completely clear, and good will toward yourself and others when we run into trouble. I’m very excited to see where this group can go this year.
As always, I love to hear from women who think, “I want to sing, but I’m not sure if I can.” You can, we can, we’ll show you how.
Dark mornings have already arrived, but the green and the flowers have not yet abandoned us. Enjoy the rest of the summer!
